Some highlights of my 18 years in the workplace…

After graduating with a Psychology degree in 2007, and realizing I was utterly and completely broke (after all, I spent the last of my student loans on a trip to Europe, no regrets there), I realized my best spot to use my Psychology degree and pay off student loans was getting into Corporate Human Resources.

And it’s been a trip! Over 15 years in Learning and Development (aka the fun part of HR), running leadership training workshops, interpersonal skill workshops, coaching leaders, doing organizational improvement programs… woof! And while I still do some consulting… it was time to go back to my first love: Human Psychology.

I graduated in 2024 with my Masters in Counselling Psychology and am now a Registered Psychotherapist, along with my corporate work.

Side note: even though I am a fully fledged Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO, it’s so important to me to keep up the learning. I still receive clinical supervision from a certified neuropsychoanalyst to keep honing my skills and making sure I’m bringing kickass skills to my clients.

And while I love my work in mental health, I still continue to work on projects with corporations through my consulting business, Light Up Work, to help make work more human.

And what’s a session with me like?

Hmmm… lots of laughing of course. Usually some crying (don’t worry, it’s good for you). Usually swearing, if that’s your thing.

Since I’m a Psychodynamic and Attachment focused therapist, the main part of the work we do together is looking at the patterns you have going on now and tracing them back to their beginning - think like a superhero (or villain) origin story. And then, once we can figure out those dotted lines of what is going on (and why), we can start to change what no longer works.

And yeah we might also sprinkle in some other evidence based tools to help you cope with All The Things, everything from IFS, ACT, MBCT, DBT, Narrative therapy, SFBT, etc etc… but really, at the core, two humans working together to sort out your brain, finally.

And some other trivia for you:

  • Lived in England for 5 years (still weirdly homesick for London England)

  • Live with my British partner, two kids, one eyed poodle and two rescued dumpster cats

  • Every year on my birthday I like to get another tattoo - usually with a nerdy book theme

  • I can always be found making tea

  • Bucket list travel destination: Japan, Indonesia and Yukon

And the education & training highlights…
